Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi og Texas har erklært en eller annen form for krise under kulden som hittil har tatt minst 13 menneskeliv, melder CNN.
– Over 150 millioner amerikanere lever alt i områder der det er sendt ut varsel om vinterstormer og isstormer, konstaterte National Weather Service (NWS) mandag.
Minst 5 millioner er strømløse mandag, nesten 4,4 millioner av dem i Texas. Det var mandag ni minusgrader i Houston, og folk bes om å trekke inn i husene sine selv om de ikke har strøm.
Myndighetene advarer om at folk kan være strømløse helt til torsdag.
