Global temperatur november 2021

Temperaturtrender

It may also be compared with recent rates in the observational record (e.g., ~0.26°C per decade for 1984–1998 and ~0.04°C per decade for hiatus period 1998–2012».

Tysklands kanskje mest framtredende klimaforsker Hans von Storch, uttalte i et intervju med Der Spiegel i 2013 om temperaturtrenden: «In fact, the increase over the last 15 years was just 0.06 degrees Celsius (0.11 degrees Fahrenheit) — a value very close to zero».

For våren (mars-mai) oppgir NOAA 50 % sjanse for fortsatt La Niña.

Vinteren er her

  4. Researchers have found the first evidence of live dogs being traded in the Americas – and they were exchanged over distances of more than 100 miles (160km).

The Maya were trading live dogs in 400BC from Ceibal in Guatemala, which is one of the earliest ceremonial sites from the Mesoamerican civilisation, researchers found.

The bones were largely found in the ceremonial centre meaning the animals were probably owned by someone important or could have even been a
    prestigious gift.

These traded dogs – which were probably slightly bigger than chihuahuas – were older than dogs for eating and
were thought to be treated better too.

They would have been used for ‘showing off’ by elites as something exotic and would have been used
in animal and human sacrifices, scientists say.

Researchers used isotope analysis on bones (pictured) from Maya sites to understand
where animals lived and what they ate

Researchers found that animal trade and management began in the Preclassic Period some 2,500 years ago.

Most of the bones and teeth they tested were from the
Maya Middle Preclassic period (700-350 BC) and from 400 BC it seems some
    of these animals were exchanged.

Previously the earliest evidence of live trading dogs was found in the Caribbean in around
    1000AD.

‘I definitely think dogs were moving before 400 BC, although dog trade
probably didn’t happen until after people became sedentary and had set settlements to trade between’,  Ashley Sharpe, an archaeologist at the
Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama who led the research told MailOnline.

‘In Asia, Africa and Europe, animal management went hand-in-hand
with the development of cities,’ she said.

However, in the Americas people may have raised animals for ceremonial purposes.

Researchers believe the dogs had short legs
and smaller heads than most medium-sized breeds today.

‘Most of the dogs were likely eaten and seem to have died at less than a year old, because their bones
are not always fused as they would be as adults’, she said.

‘The traded dogs might have been treated better,
or at least were fully grown.’

Researchers made the discovery by looking at carbon,
    nitrogen, oxygen and strontium isotopes.

Isotopes are atoms that have the same number of protons and electrons but different numbers of
neutrons. This means they have different physical properties.

For example, carbon has two stable isotopes: carbon 12 with
six protons and six neutrons and carbon 13 with six protons and seven neutrons.

Researchers analysed animal remains in Ceibal, Guatemala (pictured),
a Maya site with one of the longest histories of
continuous occupation and one of the earliest ceremonial sites

Most of the bones and teeth they tested were from the Maya Middle Preclassic
period (700-350 BC). Dog bones were found at the lowest levels of two pits (pictured), each within a pyramid at
    the Ceibal, Guatemala site

Carbon in animals’ bodies comes from the plant tissues they consume
    directly or indirectly.

Most plants use the most common type of photosynthesis to turn carbon dioxide into
carbohydrates. This process leaves mostly the lighter carbon isotope, carbon 12, behind,
    bound up in carbohydrate molecules.

Corn, sugar cane and other grasses use another type of photosynthesis that concentrates heavier, carbon 13 molecules.

By looking at these isotopes, researchers could work out what they
    ate.

The animals fell into two categories – those with lower carbon isotopes were mainly eating wild plants while those with higher isotopes were probably eating
    corn.

Because people in the region often killed animals that came into gardens and areas where crops were being cultivated, it is possible that
peccaries and turkeys may also have been eating crop plants.
Researchers found the bones in the Ceibal site

All of the dogs, two northern turkeys, Meleagris gallopavo, the turkey species that was eventually domesticated, and one of two
large cats were probably eating corn, which suggests they were domesticated.

Because people in the region often killed animals that
came into gardens and areas where crops were being cultivated, it is possible that peccaries and turkeys also
    ate crop plants.

However, it is likely that turkeys were managed by the end of
    the Classic Period.

Deer bones showed butcher marks but they were hunted from the forest
not domesticated, according to isotope analysis of bones.

One large cat and a smaller cat, probably a margay, Leopardus wiedii, had
lower carbon isotopes indicating that they ate animals that
    fed on wild plants.

The ratio of two strontium isotopes reflects the local geology in a
    region.

Forty-four of the 46 animals had strontium isotope
ratios matching Ceibal and the surrounding
    southern lowlands region.

Dogs were associated with the deity Xolotl, the god of death.
The roundness of this body (pictured) might suggest its value as
    food for the posthumous soul

Pictured is a Postclassic Maya vessel or incense burner in the form of a dog. Deer bones showed butcher marks but they were hunted from the forest not domesticated,
according to isotope analysis of bones that also had lower
    carbon isotopes

However, to Dr Sharpe’s surprise, jaw bones from two dogs excavated from deep pits at the heart of
the ancient ceremonial complex had strontium isotope ratios matching drier, mountainous regions near present-day Guatemala City.

‘This is the first evidence from the Americas of dogs being
moved around the landscape,’ Dr Sharpe said.

‘The non-local dogs were found in pyramids at the centre of the site, so they may have belonged to someone
important who came from far away, or were gifts’,
    Dr Sharpe said.

‘We have no clear evidence they were sacrificed, but perhaps they were
valued as “shown off” purposes by the early elites as something exotic and special.’

Part of the jaw bone and teeth of a big cat was found with one of the dogs in the same deposit.

‘The interesting thing is that this big cat was local, but possibly not wild,’
    Dr Sharpe said.

‘Based on its tooth enamel, it had been eating a diet similar to that of the dogs
    since it was very young.’

Researchers have not yet worked out if it was a jaguar or a puma.
It was captured and raised in captivity, and may have lived near villages
and eaten animals that were feeding on corn.

‘It’s interesting to consider whether humans may have had a greater impact managing and
manipulating animal species in ancient Mesoamerica than has been believed,’ Dr Sharpe said.

‘Studies like this one are beginning to show that
animals played a key role in ceremonies and demonstrations of power, which perhaps drove animal-rearing and trade.’

  12. Australian billionaire’s heir Peter Holmes à Court has revealed his toddler son has
been ‘found’ in Africa after he earlier launched
a mysterious manhunt for the child.

But in a surprise twist, the boy’s mother, Mr Holmes a Court’s wife Alissa Everett, insists her son, Jaden,
was never actually missing in the first place.

Mr Holmes à Court, 56, is Russell Crowe’s ex-business partner who invested with
him in South Sydney NRL club in 2006, and the older brother of Teals
MP backer, Simon Holmes à Court, 53.

He now lives in Nairobi in Kenya with wife Alissa and their four-and-a-half-year-old son, where they run a network of hotels
and event spaces called Afrika House.

But Mr Holmes à Court this week launched a huge search campaign for Jaden, putting his picture
on posters around Nairobi and online, begging
    for help to find him.

The posters said the child was last seen in Shela Village in Lamu County, along with
contact numbers – including Mr Holmes à Court’s personal number – to get in touch.

On Tuesday, Mr Holmes à Court confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that his son had now been ‘found’ but would not go into detail about
    the boys ‘disappearance’.

However, hours later, his American wife, a photographer and humanitarian, told Daily Mail Australia
her son had never been missing.

Australian business tycoon Peter Holmes a Court and his photographer wife Alissa Everett (both pictured)

Peter Holmes a Court circulated missing posters of his four-and-a-half-year-old
son Jaden appealing to the public for more information on his sons whereabouts

‘Thankfully, he is not missing and never was,’ Ms Everett said.
    ‘He is safely with me.’

Locals have suggested Ms Everett was on holiday with her son in the
Lamu area, amid rumours of problems in their marriage, at the time
    the alert was sounded.

The couple were previously hit by tragedy when just days before
their scheduled wedding in Botswana in 2014,
the couple were involved in a fatal collision, along with dozens of friends and relatives

The group were aboard a tourist tram at Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls when a
freight train ignored a stop sign and rammed
them from behind, leaving one dead and 20 injured.

Will Poovey, an American father of two, was flown to South Africa for treatment but did not survive the freak accident.

Born into extreme wealth, Peter is the first son of Robert and Janet Holmes a
Court, he attended the illustrious Geelong Grammar School and Oxford
    University.

His late father, was born in South Africa before
coming to Australia and becoming the country’s first billionaire through investments in resources and media.

Robert’s death left his wife Janet one third of the family fortune with the four children sharing the rest.
The amount Peter reportedly received was $35 million.

The couple seen holding a sign remembering their friend Will Poovey, who was killed in a train accident shortly before the wedding

Peter Holmes a Court and Alissa Everett have lived in Kenya a number of years

In 2000 Holmes à Court settled out of court with his family to gain his inheritance from the family company, Heytesbury.

He famously sold his 37.5 per cent share in the premier team to billionaire businessman James Packer for an undisclosed amount.

The couple have lived in Kenya for a number of years after increasingl spending more time
    in Africa a decade ago.

As well as Afrika House, Ms Everett runs the charity Exposing Hope
to bring attention to the harsh conditions faced
    by war victims and refugees.

  13. A billionaire couple have won the right to remove a single tree from the driveway of their lavish $20million mansion after being blocked by their local council.

Paul Holmes a Court, the son of Australia’s first billionaire
Robert Holmes a Court, and his wife Zara had been at loggerheads with their
local council over a request to remove a single
peppermint tree growing in the middle of their driveway.

The couple bought the four-bedroom mansion in the affluent, tree-lined suburb overlooking
Perth’s Freshwater Bay for $20.1million in August.

They wanted to remove the tree but the Shire of
Peppermint Grove refused the request on the grounds the tree was not dead or deceased.

‘We are very lucky to live here, but I have to say that the tree placement is unusual,’
Ms Holmes a Court previously told a council meeting.

‘I’m quite a reasonable and rational person, but a tree in the middle of the driveway makes it quite tricky to reverse out.’

The couple enjoyed a breakthrough at a council meeting last
week after an alternative motion was unanimously passed that allowed the tree to be removed on the condition they paid a $2,500
bond before any work was done on the driveway.

They will also need to plant two replacement trees on their property.

Paul Holmes a Court (pictured) is the son of Australia’s
first billionaire, famed tycoon Robert Holmes a Court, who died suddenly of heart failure at the age of 53

Paul Holmes à Court and his wife Zara won a council battle to
remove a peppermint tree (pictured) from the driveway of their $20million mansion

Ms Holmes a Court previously claimed the tree’s odd placement also made it difficult to spot cars turning the corner at a nearby intersection with Bay View Terrace.

After the motion to remove the tree was passed at the meeting,
councillor Douglas Jackson said it was a ‘good outcome’.

‘I think it meets both the owners’ wants, or
expectation, but also matches the council’s needs at the same
time by ensuring that there is tree cover on the verge of that
    property,’ he said.

Peppermint Grove is hoping to implement a policy that would even make it an offence to damage or remove any mature trees
on private property without council approval.

Last month, WA Planning Minister John Carey said he hoped the Shire
of Peppermint Grove would ‘take a common sense approach’ to the issue.

‘This is part of the challenge that we do have with local government.
I’ve always been on the record that we need local governments to take
a common sense approach to issues,’ Mr Carey told the West Australian.

‘And I understand people are passionate about trees. But ultimately, we do
need local governments to assess the situation and find pragmatic outcomes.’

According to the online listing for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion – which is built on a corner block along the banks of the Swan River –
the sprawling Federation-style property was built in around 1904.

The Holmes à Court property was built in around 1904 in Federation ‘Arts
    and Crafts’ style

The home boast an unparalleled view of the Swan River overlooking
    Fresh Water Bay

‘Designed in the rare Federation ‘Arts and Crafts’ style, the home has retained all its elegance and splendour via lofty ceilings,
sweeping verandas, charming decorative arches, casement-style sash windows,
and walls of French doors that bathe the home
in light, reflecting river views beyond,’ the listing said.

The property also features ‘Plush Champagne-hued carpets’ and ‘cobble-stoned remote garage
to accommodate six cars, abundant storage, gym area, double vanity rain-shower bathroom and climate-controlled wine cellar.’

Mr Holmes a Court is the chief executive of prize-winning wine label
Vasse Felix and the brother of Peter Holmes à Court, who once jointly owned of
the South Sydney Rabbitohs with Russell Crowe, and climate philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court.

During the evening, Felicity missed out on Best Supporting
Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in The Brutalist with Zoe Saldaña taking home
    the gong for Emilia Pérez.

However, the British stars latest film The Brutalist did pick up Best Drama Film, Best
Director and her co-star Adrien Brody won Best Actor.

The Brutalist is a post-war epic about a Holocaust survivor
attempting to rebuild a life in America.

Director Brady Corbet said at the festival:
‘The film is about the physical manifestation of the trauma of the 20th century.

It’s dedicated to the artists that didn’t get to realise their vision.’

Inspired by the Jean-Louis Cohen’s book Architecture in Uniform, the film starring Adrien Brody as a Hungarian architect will have its world premiere on Sunday.

Spanning decades, The Brutalist tells the story of László Tóth
and his attempts to pursue his art after the war in America.

Adrien Brody plays Tóth, and Felicity his wife, Erzsébet.
He lives in near-poverty until a wealthy industrialist, Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce), gives him an important contract.
Joe and Alessandro Nivola also star.

The event was hosted by Nikki Glaser and was certainly a
night to remember, as it contained everything from a joke
about jailed rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to an actress who
    almost flashed the audience.

It was filled with controversial comments, unexpected wins, a shocking engagement rumour – and

in a Musical or Comedy for her role in The Brutalist with Zoe Saldaña taking home
    the gong for Emilia Pérez

However, the British stars latest film The Brutalist did pick up Best Drama Film, Best Director
and her co-star Adrien Brody (L) won Best Actor; pictured with Guy Pearce

The show kicked off with host Nikki delivering a
brutal monologue that contained digs at Timothee Chalamet and the cast of the Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux.

She also made a quip about disgraced rapper Diddy – and social media was not pleased with her comment.

Things only got more awkward when Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning
headed to the stage to accept an award and narrowly avoided
accidentally exposing herself to the audience.

In addition, Jodie Foster was heckled by her fellow
nominee Sofía Vergara after she took to the stage to accept an award
and Vin Diesel was accused of shading the movie Wicked due to
his interesting reaction to the film’s win.

Zendaya even sparked engagement rumours thanks to a big rock on her finger,
while another left fans concerned because of her frail appearance.

At one point, the audience became emotional after The Brutalist director Brady Corbet gave
a touching tribute White Lotus star Aubrey, who was originally supposed to present at the awards show but was not present following the news that her husband had passed away.

The excitement began long before the star-studded event even started,
as the red carpet had its own fair share of dramatic encounters, including a slew of bizarre and revealing outfits and some adorable PDA from a few of Hollywood’s most coveted couples.

While many stars wowed in daring gowns and figure-hugging frocks, some totally missed the mark and
    had sartorial fails.
